A year in the Star Wars Galaxy is 368 days (a day is still the same length).
I was watching The Empire Strikes Back earlier and I have one minor question: When our heroes first arrive at Cloud City and C-3PO wanders off and gets blasted apart, who exactly blasts him apart? I always thought it was Storm Troopers but it doesn't sound like them.
No, you're right, C-3PO is blasted apart by Storm Troopers.
this isn't quite a movie question, but it is related. can droids be affected by Jedi mind tricks or does it only work on living things (with weak minds)?
I'm pretty sure that the mind trick can't be used on droids, as they are not a living being. To my knowledge, there is not a single instance in the movies or EU where a mind trick was used on a droid.
In A New Hope, why didn't the death star blow up the Yavin gas giant first then the Yavin 4 moon? I would think it would be much faster than orbiting around the planet hoping the rebels didn't come up with a defense to the super laser or find a weakness in the death star.
I'm not quite sure of the answer, but I believe it was because the first Death Star wasn't powerful enough to destroy a Gas Giant.
