For those who don't know, MyBB comes with a built-in Reputation system that allows you to send positive or negative points to a user. Now I've always kept it disabled because I'm not a big fan of it.
Of course it is cool to give people reputation because you liked something they said, or because you think a post is simply awesome. But I guess I'm also saying, there is always the potential of the system being mis-used.
Honestly... I'd like to ask all members, is it really a good feature to enable?
It's a nice feature and all but to me its just another part of the forum. But hey, when its a fairly light-hearted board like this one, its not really something that matters all that much.
So I'm voting for 'Don't care one way or the other'
I'm voting against a Reputation system. All they are is a popularity contest, really. Especially since there isn't really a set method to determine whether or not a post is rep worthy. What would we to compare it to? Even if you think you're being fair, you'll probably likely notice (positively) the people that you like, and rep them even if they're post(s) aren't that great. But some new guy (like me), or even an older member you don't really know, you probably won't notice and the thought doesn't cross your mind to rep.
Or on the reverse, you'll likely notice (negatively) a person you DON'T like and are prone to neg repping them. But take someone you don't know who may be offensive and deserve a neg rep.. and you probably won't bother.
So while at times it can be fun and it does have the potential to show how well received you are, it's still a popularity contest, and I don't think anything will change that.

I just wanted to say that I agree with this totally. Every bit of it. In relative terms, it COULD be used as an indicator of general status in the community by some. But let's be realistic here, it would be whored and probably lead to ego problems.
No, I don't want it. Let us not forget that the negative rep function may end up being abused, especially if it's used against disliked members in order to try and sneakily discouraging them from venturing around the boards. Not to mention it might end up bringing disputes from other boards here.
Eh, could be useful but I don't see myself using it.
Oh good god no! Reputation systems are nothing more than a waste of space. This board works perfectly fine without one, lets not turn what community we have into a mere 'who has the most rep' contest.
I've always seen the Rep system as a means to make forums more inviting. It's a great way to drive people to try and make contributive and thought-out posts.
Although the system can get abused at times and people are likely to send rep to their friends, it still remains a good effort boost and a social tool. Just like post counts and join dates, it's often used as a tool to show one's popularity, and at times it does give a good representation of who are good, contributive member and who aren't.
The key thing with the Rep system, is that you don't take it too seriously, while at the same time don't try to whore around it, either.
Not too crazy about a rep system. I mean, is it really necessary?
I voted No in this case.
I don't really grasp the concept of 'reputation', but it could be that I don't give a damn, or just don't care.

It is all too geeky for me!
It could be useful but on a smaller forum you'd have to practically rep every member. It's, as Qui-Gon Jinn said, still a popularity contest, and nothing will change that.
Personally, I'd probably add the system. I'd only have some sort of review for neg repping (does that exist?). So if someone neg reps a perfectly fine post solely because one doesn't like the other, it should be removed. Also, is there some sort of logging involved with a rep system.
Meh, kinda pointless. Much rather have a blogging system or money system before a rep system.
It's not necessary for the reasons Qui-Gon Jinn and VulcanStevens stated.

I don't like reputation systems, it only serves as barrier between members. I've seen forums where activity drops when a reputation system is implemented since a lot of people get discouraged, since sometimes they feel they can't keep up. I've also seen that with a reputation system, members becoming pompous or obnoxious.
So I vote no in this case.

I think it's a TERRIBLE idea to be able to send ANY "negative" points or such to another member - I mean, COME ON?!!!
If it were JUST (only) Good points, then that would be different.
