Talky, like the first half of A New Hope is, that is (I think Lucas said he was gonna do it that way).
That's exactly how I'd like to see the live action series. I've always loved the first half of the original film so much because it slowed things down and in turn emphasized a more naturalistic sense of character interaction. Perhaps more-so than in any of the following movies, the characters in the first half of A New Hope seem to feel the most "real." I'd also add that Tatooine as portrayed in the original film feels a great deal more distant and alien than other Saga locations.
Here's hoping that Lucas follows through with a character driven show.
You know, that's how I feel. None of the scenes on Tatooine in ANH never felt contrived in any way. Everything feels so fluid and natural. Instead of actors seeming aware of the fact they're in front of a camera etc, rather it truly feels like the characters are real. Mundane elements make everything feel that much more believable as well as having scenes at dawn, dusk, night and in all weathers. After the OT I felt like scenes have become a little more contrived, rather than just letting things flow as if they were done on the fly (though well prepared). Watching the scenes flowing from the Jundland Wastes, to the Dune Sea... it has about the same effect of finding yourself on Mars. It's one of the reasons ANH is my favorite of the six films.
I agree with you. I'm hoping what they do with the planets and such will be as interesting as possible. I have a feeling that they will do what they can, effects wise.
Casting will be tough I think. Isn't Lucas known for casting unknowns?
I can't wait to find out more info about the show. But I'm in no rush, I'd rather they take their time and come out with a good product rather than to rush and maybe come out with something crappy.
I expect we'll see the Live Action series in 2011, Lucas after all likes to wait 3 years between his productions and The Clone Wars only premiered last year.
We got some news:
SW Live Action Series In 2012
Quote:•Live Action TV series confirmed, most likely airing 2012.
•Weekly drama show.
•One hour episodes.
•Possible “news from Daniel [Logan’s] camp in the not-too-distant future.”
Slowly, the rumors are being confirmed.
Hmmm... classifying it as a "drama show" is interesting. Looks like the show might tone down the adventure/action in favor of a character driven premise. I wonder if they're aiming for something like Battlestar Galactica...
It's certainly exciting to finally hear some news about the live action series from Lucasfilm. Expectations for the series are so high and I can't wait for it to finally reach our screens.
Daniel Logan... please let it be true, Boba Fett as the star of the series would be awesome.
First of all, glad to see that the Live action series is still on track, albeit not until 2012. Having said that, I hope they really focus on doing this show right. No offense to anyone, but part of doing it "right" means better than The Clone Wars (which I don't hate, but I am hesitate to call it "Star Wars").
Although it's cool to hear Daniel Logan might reprise his role as Boba Fett, I hope he's got the acting chops to be the lead. He seemed good for the role in Attack of the Clones, is he good enough to carry a TV show?

I think he is, but then again, I don't think I've ever seen him outside of Star Wars...
I hope the show is about Fett, as I've always been down with Boba. I feel there's some good potential left with the character, as there is a lot of mystery around him, must be why people like him so much.
Also, "Death, Lies, and Treachery" made me want to see a whole lot more of him.
2012 doesn't sound that far off... I just hope the Mayan calendar is wrong about the world ending...
I think it would be interesting to see a few episodes with a 'coruscant nights' feel to the series... the adventures of jax paven and laranth tarak.

I was personally hoping for a feel like BSG or The Wire myself, but Coruscant Nights feel could be good.
I too hope for a feel like Battlestar myself; I'm not saying Star Wars should be that serious/depressing/intense, but the acting, directing and writing in Battlestar was consistently high quality and should be a model to future Sci-Fi shows on TV.
Here's hoping Ron Moore writes a episode here and there.

If we're going for the whole "no heroes adult drama" angle, The Wire, I believe, is more sophisticated than Battlestar, and seems to be a better comparison to the LAS. You have several factions of feuding characters (street junkies, cops, gansters, labor unions and politicians) all having their own little inter-cut adventures. Along the way, you learn to love the bad characters as much as the protagonists. I can't think of anything that sounds more like what people are asking from the LAS. Just replace gangsters with Hutts and Baltimore police with Stormtroopers.
I too hope Ron Moore writes an episode.
I've never seen The Wire, but I have seen BSG and thought it was good. So I guess you can say I'd like it like BSG.
