Texas GOP platform: criminalize gay marriage and ban sodomy, outlaw strip clubs and pornography

Quote:The Texas Republican Party gives a whole new meaning to the word conservative.

The GOP there has voted on a platform that would ban oral and anal sex. It also would give jail sentences to anyone who issues a marriage license to a same-sex couple (even though such licenses are already invalid in the state).

“We oppose the legalization of sodomy,” the platform says. “We demand that Congress exercise its authority granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.”

Yeah, how these people are taken seriously is beyond me.
In other news Texas Republicans are set to ban cattle next week. They're getting really tired of all the "steers and queers" jokes. Wink
Why are they even wasting their time with this stuff? How can they even enforce a law that affects what people do in private. If two gays are getting it on anywhere in Texas, what proof will they have that they're breaking the law?
It is interesting that in the face of record unemployment, major economic downturn and widespread environmental disaster off the Gulf Coast, the Republicans focus on this.

I swear these people live in a completely different reality. Dry
God damn... since when has texas become Iran?
What I can't believe is that they want Congress to effective ban the federal courts from hearing cases on the matter. The separation of power between the legislator and judiciary would be meaningless.

You know what, Texas can break away now.

Maybe we should give them some sanctions... Wink
What the hell is with the GOP these days? Seriously, have they just abandoned intellect? This idea is embarrassing, unenforceable (what, are you gonna have cops peeking through everyone's windows now?), and is just plain wrong.
Does anyone still believe that Republicans are for less government and more personal freedom? Because this proves otherwise...
yikes. Eek aren't these the same people that insult islam when we does stuff like this? hypocrites. Dry

All the conservatives I've seen don't seem to care about the concepts of Freedom, Equality and Justice for all which this nation was founded on. Their concepts of those ideals is restricted within the parameters of "freedom, equality and justice" ONLY for those with whom they agree and of whose lifestyle they approve.

They take the position inherently claiming: "I don't like your values, I don't approve of your ideals, I don't like your religion, I don't want you to marry who you want to marry etc so I will legislate your options and choices right out of existence and force you under the power of the law to act in accord and only in accord with those values and standards will be limited to what is acceptable to my conscience, not yours! Got that?"

So basically, they're freedom-hating anti-patriots who wish to use the government which they profess to despise in order to force the whole of society to behave within their own pre-approved parameters. You get all the "freedom" you want... so long as you are willing to limit yourself to what they find acceptable.
Ummm... what the hell? How they can even consider this part of their platform and expect to get elected is beyond me. Huh

They almost sound like the BNP over here...

It's because they simply have nothing to offer the people in terms of anything to help alleviate the problems affecting us and making them worthy of their vote.

Instead they are doing this as distraction. The God n Guns brigade won't care about the Republicans doing nothing to help them as long as the gays are put in their place.
You know what I find funny about all this? The amount of money those who advocate restrictions on gay rights want to spend.

Let me get this straight: when you're talking about things like benefits, spending on government buildings, public services etc., they want austerity. But if gay people are involved, suddenly there has to be enough money to fight court cases and enact and enforce laws because of the "moral decay" they fear? Dry They're stupid.
I don't understand why do they care so much about men having sex together if they're both consenting adults? Confused
